We are thrilled to host a Cuban leader speaking on Cuba’s remarkable record of becoming a Literacy Free nation as certified by UNESCO in 1961, known as Cuba’s Literacy Campaign. Below is a short summary of Profesora Luisa Campos’ Bozeman area speaking tour and this exciting opportunity to focus on education as a human right.
These events are free and open to the public and we hope you can join us and share this with friends, family and neighbors. We also have a few spaces left in our January 2018 Delegation to Cuba that explores Sustainability and Community Development with an option to participate in Havana’s International Jazz Festival. Educating for All: Cuba’s Leadership and the 1961 Literacy Campaign
Profesora Luisa Campos, head of Cuba’s National Museum of Literacy and a leading global advocate for education as a human rights, will speak in a series of events at MSU and at the Bozeman Public Library. She holds a Masters in Educación and has 48 years of experience as a University Professor, largely teaching at the José Enrique Varona Pedagogical University. She has taught at an undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level, as well as teaching special courses in the areas of Cuban History, Ethics, José Martí, Adult Education, Literacy (in various issues within literacy studies), and with the YO SI PUEDO (Yes I Can!) Literacy program.

Monday, October 23 – 6:00 – 8:30 PM ~ Bozeman Public Library, Large Community Room
Reception followed by Presentation @ 6:30 PM – “Education for All: Cuba’s Leadership and the 1961 Literacy Campaign” with Profesora Campos with Q & A. Followed by Encore screening of Maestra/Teacher: documentary by Catherine Murphy about Cuba’s 1961 Literacy Campaign. (www.maestrathemovie.com). In Spanish with English translation.

2:30 PM – Coffee and Tea is available hosted by the MSU Office of the President
3:00 PM – Discussion with Profesora Luisa Campos on the Yo Si Puedo (Yes I Can!) Literacy Program used worldwide. Profesora Campos will focus on the impacts of literacy and education as a human right on the lives of women, Afro-Cubans, other minorities, and rural workers are the majority of beneficiaries by having access to education and more opportunities to learn. In Spanish with English translation.
Both events are Free and the Public is welcome.
